Aberfcldy 6. Imperial Polly 6, Fusee 7, Ribbons 7, Mandarene 7, Ycrax 8, Bright 8, Walnut 8. (Run Tuesday, November 8.) CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. A largely-attended meeting of directors was held last evening, Mi 1 Alexander Gillies (president) in the chair. A letter was received from the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Athletic Union asking that the society should consider the question: “That the centres can sufficiently control sport in their own centres, and that tho expensive and unnecessary union should be supplanted by an appeal board, comprised of three members, to whom all disputes could be referred for arbitration, and who would arrange for reciprocal agreements with other sports bodies throughout the Empire,” and asked for an expression of opinion thereon.—Referred to the Finance Committee for considcra tion. A letter was received from Mr R. Mackenzie conveying greetings to the directory; and expressing his opinion that the society was better than any he had seen in the Old Land. The following committees were appointed : Finance: Messrs James Brown, R. Forrest, James Michie, P. Miller, Dr Macdonald, R- Mackenzie, D. A. M'Nicoll, D. M'Phcrson, Charles Speight, and C. E. Keast.
Games and Grounds: Messrs D. Duncan. John Gebbie, R. Powley, D. Bannatyne, Alex. Sligo, Martin Wills, Colin M'Kenzie, J. S. M'Peak, W. W. M'Leod, and James Smeaton.
Entertainment : Messrs W. L. Hutton, J. K. Macfie, D. F. M'Kay, AJex. Begg, J. A. Hopcraft, H. M. M'Lachlan, A. F. Brown. James Crawford, J. R. Fairbairn, X. Dickel, and A. Pol worth.
EXCITING: THREE DEAD HEATS. A London <able advises that there were three dead heats at the Birmingham races on Tuesday, whereof Wootton, the Australian, rode two.
POXY RACING IX MELBOURNE. A Melbourne cable advises that the ra« for the Ascot Thousand, 5J,[. resulted Flying Spark 1, Master Simmer 2, Careen 3. Won by two lengths. Time, Imin 7 l-sseo. il ‘Grath practically rode the winner bare-backed, his saddle being disarranged immediately after the start.
After the settling up over Comedy King's win in the Melbourne Cup, Mr S. Green, his owner, announced Iris , intention to donate £SOO to charities.
The Melbourne Cup Day takings exceed those of last year.
