Captain Scot*, who is to lead the Antarctic expedition, was welcomed by the citizens of Wellington yesterday. . Addresses were given by the mayor (Mr "\\"llford) and Sir Joseph Ward, and Captain Scott replied in an appreciative speech. Miss W. A. Valentine, fourth assistant at Crcen (aland School, lias resigned. Mr C. S. Jenkins, on the occasion of his marriage, was presented with a marble clock by the Master Plumbers' Association, Mr J. S. Douglas making tho presentation. A number of friends, through Mr W. Farquhar.son, also presented Mr Jenkins with a dinner set of sixty-two pieces and an epergnc. Mr A. W. Lilly has been appoinied organist and choirmaster of Ail Saints' Church. Mr Lilly lias been organist of St. Matthew's for the last twenty yean. The wreath sent by Sir Ceoigo Ilea! to be laid on tho eolliu of Prince Franc is of leek was inscribed as follows: —"With everv feeling of .sorrowful sympathy in the death of this brave soldier and good citizen. The sick puor have lost one of their beet friends."
