OBITUARY.
HON. 11. H. J. REEVES, M.L.C. [Pke United Pkcss Association.] "NELSON, June. 1. The Hon. It. H. J. Reeves, M.L.C, Chairman of Committees in the Legislative Council, died at 9.S this morning, after a short illness, from heart attack. The deceased gentleman, an elder brother of -Mr C. S. Reeves, of this City, was born at Enniscort-hy. Wexford, in 1836, and was educated *at Harrow and Tarvin. In 1852 he was on the Australian goldfields, and then settled on the West Coast of this island. During his absence ho was elected to represent Hokitikn in the Canterbury Provincial Council, and on separation a member of the Westland County Council. Tie was first returned to Parliament as representative for Grey Valley (1873-1881), and then as member for Inangahua (1878-1892). In 1895 Mr Reeves was called to the Legislative Council, and was reappointed when hie term expired seven years later. During the present recess no less than three Coast representatives of the Upper House have died—viz., the Hons. F. Trask, J. Holmes, and R. H. J. Reeves. Tho only surviving member for the Wast Coast is the Hon. J. Marshall.
