GERMANY AND BRITAIN
PRINCE HENRY'S RECENT' VISIT. PLEASED WITH HIS WELCOME. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, March 14. Speaking at the East Asiatic Society's banquet at Hamburg, Prince Henry, brother of the Kaiser, said that ho and the Princess left Great Britain with grateful hearts. Hospitality, affection, and frankness wero the foundation whereon, the life of their English cousins rested. Ho had been to Great Britain in an absolutely unofficial capacity, but he had spoken to many influential ]>ersons, and he assured his hearers that Great Britain offered to Germany an honorable and sincere friendship. The idea of aggressive action was completely absent from the minds of those in Government circles in Great Britain. Their friendship rests on reciprocity, and nothing must bo omitted serving to strengthen it. Confidence, ho said, begets confidence. Germany had fought shoulder to shoulder with tho. British in the Far East, and they had learned mutual respect. Interest would be best promoted by reciprocal confidence. The officers of the Navy were sincere in their friendly feelings, but tho merchant, liko tho military and naval, must be comrades, as they had a social duty to discharge. WHAT THE FLEET LS FOR. BERLIN, March 14. The'' Norddentscho Zeitung,' referring lo what it terms Mr Mlvenna's cordial references to Herr Von Hollweg's declaration, says that as Great Britain considers only her own 'needs, so the construction of a German Fleet is based solely on the view that defence and shelter must bo created for the sea interests that have grown to such great importance to Germany's existence as a State.
