(Received March 14,’ at 10.25 a.m.) One million pounds in 'wages was lost as the result of the Newcastle strike. Tho Victorian. Government’s trade, which practically represents 300,000 tons yearly, has been lost through,lire opening of the Powlctt River mine, and trade with the Philippines has received a set-back which tho industry will/take some lime to recover. The Borehole miners are fractions, and will not return to-day. They complain that the management, contrary to the undertaking given to Mr Charlton, is endeavoring to make alterations in the working conditions.
