GREAT MUSICAL FESTIVAL

[Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, December. 1. Dr Charles Harri.se, after having suecesfully enlisted tho warm sympathy of Earl Dudley, Governor-General of Australia, Mr Deakin, and tho leading musical societies and the profession of Australia in his great musical festival project, which in 1911 is to encircle the British Empire, left Melbourne to-day for New Zealand. Sydney and Melbourne will' each have-a week of .festivals, the Melbourne Liedertafel, Philharmonic, and Victoria Festival choruses combining with the Sheffield Choir in a mammoth performance of ' Elijah,' to be conducted bv Dr Henry Coward. The. Adelaide Philharmonic, the Orpheus, Liedertafel, and University Choirs, and the Port Adelaide societies will combine with the British chair in a three day's festival. Brisbane. Ballarat, Geclong,, and other towns will hold festivals. The Lord Mayors'of Sydney and Melbourne will extend a welcome to the British choristers. His Excellency ■lvord Dudley has become honorary president .of ,tho festivals throughout the Commonwealth. Dr Harries bears credentials to His Excellency Lord Plunkct awl Sir Joseph Ward.
