The Bermondsey Socialists have selected Dr Salter as their candidate at, the coming bye-election. The Conservatives and Liberals are seeking candidates.

LONDON, October 11. (Received OctobeT 12, at 8.5 a.m.) The Opposition newspapers say that the Chancellor of the Exchequer's 'Newcastle speech is worse than his Limehoose one. They declare that it is the speech of a demagogue, and a deliberate attempt to set class against class.
The ' Daily Chronicle' and the ' Daily News' (Liberal) compare Mr LloydGeorge's speech to those of Mr Chamberlain in his Radical days.

REJOICING RADICALS.

Many Opposition newspapers denounce what they term Mr Lloyd-George's incendiary speech. * ,
The 'Pall Mall Gazette' exposes what it describes as the Chancellor of the Exchequer's " rhetorical falsehoods,*' and infers that Mr Lloyd-George challenges tbe right of evoryono to inherit anything which is not due to personal exertion.
Other Unionist papers complain of Mr Lloyd-George's vindictiveness.
The Radical papers rejoice at the prospect of the undutiful rich being made to contribute their share to the Exchequer. The 'Manchester Guardian' (G.) considers the speech a "first-rate" one.
