IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT

THE NAVY AND AUSTRALIA.

2,000 MEN. TO BE LENT

Press. Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.

LONDON, October 7.

In the Honse of Commons Lord Winterton asked Mr M'Kenna {First Lord of the Admiralty) whether the Admiralty intended to lend the Commonwealth 2,000 men in connection with the Navy Agreement, and whether the personnel of the Imperial Navy would be increased in order to make good the loss.

Mr M'Kenna replied that it was premature to make a statement. He did not know that 2,000 was the number to bo sent. Lord Winterton was in error in assuming that the personnel of the Imperial Navy would necessarily be decreased, since many men of the British Navy were already on the Australian, station.

Replying to Major Anstruther-Gray, Mr M‘Keana declined to discuss the question as to whether the Admiralty would diminish the number of men on the Australian station or whether their places would be taken by colonials. THE LORDS WILL CONTINUE TO WORK. LONDON, October 7. The House of Lords will meet next week to read the Housing and Town-planning Bill a third time, and to conclude Hie second reading debate on the Irish Land Bill.
