ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
A Wellington message states that word has been received that a farmer named John Lester Hastie had been killed through 1 falling down a gully at Reikorangi. George Easter brook, a carter at Merer®, was admitted to the hospital with a broken jaw and other injuries, the jefeult of a kick from a horse. He was Wiconscious for a time, but is improving. Yesterday a carter named T. Moran had a narrow escape at the Town Board gravel pit, at which he was -working alone. A fall of earth buried Moran, who w*a severely cut about the head.—Wairoa telegram.
•lohn Eagle, a railway cadet at Omakau, suffered serious injury on Wednesday night.. The train from Dunedin had just arrived,' and Eagle jumped to the footboard of the engine, which was proceeding to the turntable. ]Je fell, and the wheels of Both engine and tender passed over one foot, almost severing it above the ankle. Dr Bagiey (of St. Bathans) did what was; possible for the lad, who was then takerr back at once to the Naseby Hospital.
