‘ THE SOCIETY’S MEETING
Tho monthly meeting oc the Committee of the Society for *(ho Promotion of Health of Women and Children was held in the Town Hall this morning, there being present Mesdames Joachim {in the chair), Theomin, King, Moore, Rattray, Allen, Loudon, Denniston, Ritchie, Rcss* Ramsay, Donald, Sidey, Cohen (hon. treasurer), and Carr (hon. secretary), and Misses Beswiqk and GW. Apologies were „received from Mesdames Jackson and Harris. -
The Matron of Karitane Home i e ported that during the month four babies had been ! admitted and five, discharged, leaving terf Ip • the Home, all doing well, and gaining ' weight. TTie Auckland Society had sent ; Nurse Brien to Karitano for three months’ | training eSe took up her duties as ; second Plunked nurse in Auckland. Two ; probationers would finish their training at' Iho end of this year, and several applica- , lions had already been received from intending probationers. The Governor had ■ visited the Home, and expressed himself pleased with the work. The Hons. J. R. , Sinclair, J. B. Callan, and J. T. Paul, ; and Messrs J. Allen, G. M. Thomson, T. K. Sjdey, and J. ]?. ArnoW, M.P.s, had ! also visited the Home. Miss Cohen and her guild rf girls continued to give an afternoon’s sowing monthly for the babies. ! There had been 170 visitors during the j month. The following donations had been | received :—Mi 1 J. Stephen, £1; Meedamea ' Lane, Arundel, and Williams, clothes.
The Plnnkct Nurse reported having paid 474 visits during ' the month. She had now 104 babies under her care, twenty having been added this month. Six thousand three hundred and forty-five bottle# of milk had * been supplied* -during the month.
A letter was received from Mrs Strong (Victorian National Council of Women) i, stating that she had read a paper of tho; work being done by the New Zealand: societies, and she hoped that similar work ■ would be started in Victoria.
Mrs Cohen’s resignation as treasurer | was accepted with much regret, and a' special vote of thankful appreciation of her services was passed. A similar vote was I accorded to Miss Cohen, who acted as 1 treasurer during her mother's absence.
Votes of thanka were also accorded to Mesdames Ritchie and Ewcn for having ; kindly lent their motor cars for the eon- , veyanco of the Governor and party to the Home.
Mrs Williams's resignation from tho Committee was regretfully accepted. Arrangements were made to assist in Hospital Saturday. - Additional proceeds from Dr King’s lecture (£6) brought the total to £4B 15s 3d.
