CYCLING ROAD RACE. A Christchurch telegram states that the entries for the cycling road race from Timaru to Christchurqri on October 30 now number 176. All parts of the Dominion are represented. ' FOOTBALL., The return match Plasterers v. Carpenters employed on the Express Company’s new building again resulted in a victory for the Plasterers, who scored two penalty goals (6 points), kicked by Newman. The game was played at Montecillo. Mr W. Facer was referee. SCHOOLS’ FOOTBALL MATCH. The final Association football match for the season will be played on the Gardens Ground to-monrow afternoon between the Otago and Southland school teams. The game should be an attnuctive one, showing the standard of play among the schoolboys. The Otago, team will practically be the same as that which defeated Wellington. Considerable interest centres in the match, which will be well worth witnessing. Tho Southland team, who are accompanied by Mr A, R. Ledde (manager), will arrive by the second express to-day, and return, to Invercargill on Monday. Following are tho teams:—Southland:, EUey, Findlay, Sutton, M'Queen, Miller, Leckie, Baxter (captain), Myers, Dykes, Jones, Wilcox; emergencies—M'Donald, Wesney, and Adcock. Otago: Burke, Alloo, Day, Eaton, Nicholson, Orr, Booker, Brown, Macdonald, Mason, Holmes; emergencies, Grace and Hutton. Mr Wilson will act as referee.

FOOTBALL SUSPENSIONS.
A London cable states that the Rugby Football Union have suspended the Coventry Club till the end of the year, and have suspended Davey during the Union’s pleasure.. They have requested Dyke to explain certain accounts.
The Gimcrack Stakes, for two-year-olds, which was decided at the York meeting in August, was won by Mr Hall Walker’s Lily Hose. Mr Hall Walker has . a wonderful record in connection with this race, as he won it in 1905 with Colonia, In 1906 with Polar Star, and in 1907 with Royal Realm. * Mr H. Whitney, of Wellington, has sent to Dunedin his three horses for;.the D.J.C. meeting —Whataknra, Odessa, /'and Aetna —and they are now quartered at Mr p. E. M‘Lean’s stables. The Hon,, J. A. Millar and the Hon. T. Mackenzie have telegraphed to the Forbnry Trotting Club in support of the Otago A. and P. Society’s request to shift the date' of the trotting meeting so as to avoid clashing with People’s Day at the Show.
A Christchurch telegram states that Los Angelos was scratched for the Stewards’ Handicap at 10A0 a.m. to-day.
