A FATAL FIRE.

TWO GIRLS BURNT TO DEATH. [Per Unitei> Pp.ess Association.] GREYMOUTH, May 7. A fire at Brunner destroyed Mr Watchman’s store and dwelling. His two daughters, aged seventeen and five years, were burnt to death. No details axe to hand. t, -i Later. Details of the fatal fire at Brunner show that the Watchmans returned home at twelve o’clock from a social. The fire was discovered at 1.30 a.m., but the cause is unknown. The victims are Jane Watchman (aged seventeen yeans) and Elizabeth (aged five years). Both made an effort- to get out, but were apparently overcome bv the smoke. The other inmates escaped by jumping from the second-storey windows. They an sustained minor injuries, the meet serious being to Thomas Watchman, who had his arm broken. AH the members of the family are ntterly prostrated. The premises were insured, but the amounts are not available. The inquest is proceeding.
