THE RIFLE MEETING.

TRENTHAM RANGE, March 9. Shooting commenced this morning with the 900 yds range of tho Otago Match and the 60Oyds in tho Wellington Match. The shooting opened in a dead calm, but shortly afterwards a strong breeze sprang up, interfering- considerably with the murksmen. At the 600 yds range James (Napier) pat. on 49, and is loading for tho match with 98. the next in order being Kiivie (Riversdalo) 95. Dick (Riversdale) 94, Skolly (Wellington) 91, Farley (Auckland) 91. In the 900 yds match Storkey (Napier) is leading with 96. Soreneen (Newton) 94, Clyde (Wakiri) 93, Montgomery (Port Chalmers) 92, Hawthorn (Wellington), and Beckington (Timaru) 91. At the SOOyds Otago Clyde (Wakari) succeeded in getting the possible, his total being 93. Maingay (Piaka) also put on {he possible, finishing with 91. The leading aggregates at present are: Patrick (Auckland) 524, Soper (Marlborough) 323, King (Christchurch) 322, Milroy (Permanent Artillery) 319. 2 p.m. James (of Napier) wins the Auckland Match, with 98. Guy (Kaponga) wins the Union Cup, with an aggregate of 280 in the Auckland, Nelson, and Wellington Matches. Storky (Napier) wins the Otago Match, with 96.

Guy is lending in the general aggregates for the championship, with 368.
