PRISON REFORM SOCIETY.

•9 A meeting of tho Prison Reform Society was held in Air Gilkison’s office yesterday afternoon; pre-rent —the Rev. Dr Waddell (in tho chair). Hie Rev. Canon CurzonSiggors, Messrs AI. Cohen and R. Gilkison. Mr Gilkison "aid that they were still without Hie services of a secretary, ami this to some extent accounted for the long interval that had elapsed since the last meeting. The reason he had couvens’d that meeting was that he considered that the present was a most opportune lime for reviving interest in the society, as the Hon. Dr Findlay, the Aiini.ster of Justice, was advocating prison reform on Hie lines laid down by the society. He thought it would lie a good idea, to ask Dr Findlay to come to Dunedin and deliver a lecture on prison reform. Mr Cohen thought that this was an excellent idea, and he was quite sure that Dv Findlay would he only too pleased to give a lecturj under the' auspices of tho society. On the motion of Mr Gilkison it was resolved—"That the society congratulate Dr Findlay on Hie reforms Tie ing in prison matters, and that he be invited to come to Dunedin and deliver a lecture under the auspices of Hie society on ’ Criminal Reform ’ at a date convenient to himself.” It was also agreed that Mr Gilkison call the annual meeting of the society on the receipt of an answer from Dr Findlay. Air Gilkison was deputed to obtain the use of a hall for Dr Findlay’s lecture
