Sir Robert and Lady Stout left Wellington byi the Marama yesterday • for Sydney on route ior England. Mr J. Ross, who is shortly going to Master!an, woe the recipient of a travelling bag and a nig at the annual meeting < f the Dunedin Football Olnb last evening. Mr IT. F. SinoocE made the presentation, stilting iiat they wore all sorry to lose the services <•■£ Mr Ross, who had been connected with the dub for about fourteen years, and who had acted as honorary treasurer for the last throe years. Mr Ross responded with a few well-chosen remarks, after whkh three hearty cheers were given. Mr Hunter, of Stratford, has been appointed head-master of the Gore High School. There were twenty-livo applications.
It is said that llxi Rev. D. C. Bates, F.R.G.S., will bo Government Aleteorologifit, vice Captain Edwin, who retires under the superannuation regulations. Nearly half the members of the Royal Welsh Male Choir being associated with the Baptist Church, the pastor, with the officers of the Hanover Street Church and their ladies, gave a reception in the church hall yesterday afternoon. After tea had been served the Rev. W. Hny cordially welcomed the visitors, and the! Rev. C. Dalbislon idso spoke. The conductor (Mr Thomas), who has been for many years a deacon of the Church, and Mr Davies responded on behalf of the visitors, and expressed their pleasure at being so warmly by Baptist friends in Dunedin. Miss Emma Goldman, the Socialist lecturer, ■will shortly leave Sau Francisco to tour Australasia.
There arc persistent rumors in Sydney that the Primate of Australia is retiring from his position.
We hear that Air Allan Thomson, B.Sc. (Oxon), son of Air G. AI. Thomson, ALP. for Dunedin North, is shortly to be married to Miss Alice Gertrude Keam, of this (Jity.
At Alcasrs Butterworth Bros.’ warehouse to-day a presentation was made to Air A. S. Do Lautour, who, after four years’ service, is severing his connection* with the linn to proceed to England to take up a course of study. Air Anderson, in handing to Air De Lautour a travelling rug and bag, expressed regret at the departure of the recipient, and on behalf of his associates in the firm wished him every success in his new sphere. Mr De Lautour made a suitable response.
