GOLF TOURNAMENT.

OTAGO CHAMPIONSHIPS. MBS FERGUS WINS LADIES’ EVENT. The second round of the Ladies’ Championship of Otago was played this morning on the Balmacewen Links in dull weather. The showers of the previous day and early this morning hod made the greens heavy, and as a result of more or less unfavorable golf conditions the scores of this round were not so* good as those put up yesterday morning in the first round. Mrs Fergus hod enough of a lead in the first round to enable her to score a comfortable victory with a second round of 38, which was the second best card handed in for this round. The best was Mrs Allan’s 92, which brought her up into second place. Mrs Todd, who hao occupied second place in the first round with 91, encountered bad luck this morning, and did not complete tlie round. Alias Mill, who in the last New Zealand Championships _ showed form good enough to take her into the semi-finals, did not play in the second round this morning, having had the misfortune to sprain her ankle yesterday.afternoon, after having done 97 m the first round of the championship. The following were the ten best aggregates. Mrs M'Garthy’s score is included, but as she had teed off outside the discs for the first hole in the first round, though this was done in pure inadvertence and no advantage was gained thereby, the Committee disqualified her, having no option under the rules. Mrs Fergus now holds the challenge cup for one year:— LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP OP OTAGO.

Umcurreritly with the second wu/nd r medal handicap was played, and this whs won by Miss Holmes, who (like Mks A. AliJl, the winner pf the First Medal Handicap yesterday) had a big handicap. Tlie lowest net score was secured by Mrs Allan, but as that player had already secured a trophy as runner-up in the championship, the trophy for the handicap goes, under the conditions of the event, to Miss Holmes, wliooe net score of 81 wag next best to Mrs Allan’s. Tlie following were the best cards handed in:
