(Received December 28, at 9.15 a.m.) Wills, the mate of the tug Advance, who was washed ashore on a grating, had a terrible experience. He was drifting throughout the night, and several times was washed off, # and had great difficulty in regaining his hold. Two steamers passed close to him in the darkness, but his cries failed to reach them. When nearing the beach the grating turned over, and he was nearly drowned. Wills was in a terribly exhausted condition when he reached the shore, his only clothes being his shirt and boots.
