' observed a black cat in one of the enclosures in the Botanical Gardens, and as it was close to where the ! ducks and swans arc kept it is desired to draw the attention of the authorities to the matter. “Red Jacket” regrets that the Dunedin Operatic Society made a loss through the 1 production of ‘The Mikado.’ The per ! formance was a remarkable one, being do- I lightfully clean and bright. The society are entitled to the whole-hearted support of the community. It is to be hoped they will be able to stage another opera durhig next winter. , “Mornington” says that the Rev. W. ! Perhaps, unaware to himself by his defence of License, he is provoking reprisals on tho part of a great number of women, who have seen, and are still seeing, sons and 1 husbands reduced to a state of brutality 1 and degradation, wrecking happy homes, ' and having nothing ahead but the , drunkards’ grave. i
