VICTORIA JUBILEE FUND.

ANNUAL MEETING. The twenty-first annual meeting of the Victoria Jubilee Convalescent Fuikl was held in the Town Hall at noon to-day. .Mrs Colquhoon (president) was in the chair, and the following other ladies were present:—Mesdaanes E.' C. Reynolds. Batchelor, Israel. Martin, Geo. Roberts, O'Neill. Theomin. A. Johnston Brown (secretary), and Miss Hutchison (treasurer^;. In submitting the annual report for the year ended 31st October. 1908. the Committee congratulated subscribers and helpers on the fart nt the fund having attained its majority, this being the twenty-first annual report which luis been issued. The occasion seemed suitable (or recalling the fact that the original Committee, which took office in 1887. consisted of Mrs R. Oliver (president), Mrs Colquhoun (hon. treasurer), Mrs W. D. Stewart (hon. secretary), and Mesdames Dymock. A. W. Morris. B. Ross, Borrows, and Miss Bodley ; and of these Mrs A. W. Morris and Mrs Colquhoun have acted as office-bearers continuously from the inception of the fund. The meeting at which the fund was inaugurated was convened by the then mayor, the late Mr R. If. _ Leafy. The City was divided up into districts, and collectors were appointed, while a garden partv at “Tolcarne ” (kindly lent for the purpose by Mrs R. Oliver) and two courses of lecture's by members of the medical profession were among the means taken to place the fund upon a financial footing. The average number of patients who have directlv benefited by tho fund had been maintained, but, as in jrrrvioi’s years, a larger number might have been helped, and in view of the efforts made to bring the existence of the society before the public it is matter for astonishment that it is not more extonsivoly availed of. Travelling expenses were again granted in several cases where patients had friends at a distance whom they proposed visiting. During the year Mrs Morrison, matron of the Convalescent Homo at Pahnerston, found it necessary to remove into another house, which, however. is quite as suitable as that previously occupied. Hot more than four patient's are admitted to tho home at any one time. Mrs Morrison continues to give entire satisfaction to the Committee, while her kind and tactful attitude towards patients is all that could be desired. The amount received from the Hospital Saturday collection is let* by £2O than last year.‘while the ordinary receipts show a further slight falling-off. On the other hand, the expenditure has remained almost the same rs last year. In any case, the income has exceeded the expenditure, and the balance in hand amounts to £Bl 16s lOd, as against £55 16s Id brought forward from last year. The thanks of the Committee are tendered to His Worship the Mayor for i granting the use of the room in which are held the monthly meetings; also to Mr Sinclair Thomson, who for many years acted as honorary auditor, and who only relinquished the position on hie leaving the colony. Mr Israel has consented to act in his place. On the motion of Mrs Theomin. seconded by Mrs Israel, the annual report and bal-ance-sheet were adopted. The following Indies were elected officebearers for the ensuing season.-—Presi-dent, Mrs E. C. Reynolds; vice-president, Mrs Israel; hon. treasurer, Miss Hutchison ; hon. secretary, Mrs A. Johnston Brown ; Martin, A. j W. Morris. Mackearas. Theomin. Colquhoun, O’Neil], Geo. Roberts. W. Bull, Batchelor, Ewen, C. W. Rattray, and Miss Ferguson.
