KAURI TIMBER AND TRUSTS.
[Special to the Star.] WELLINGTON, June 13. Mr Millar states that he has received information that kauri timber purchased outside the “ ring” can be landed at a little over £1 per 100 ft, as against 27s to 28s, while other classes of timber can be purchased direct from outside the “ ring ” at from 11b to 12s 6d per 100 ft, as against from 16s 6d to 18s. “ That,” said the Minister, “is sufficient evidence for the Government to consider whether any more kauri bush can. bo cold at present.” It, is quite apparent that there are more trusts in New Zealand than the Flour Trust. In fact, there is sufficient evidence to show things are tending in the direction of the creation of trusts which are controlling some of the most important branches of trade in the colony.
