THE V.R.C. AUTUMN MEETING. . Fmsr Day.—Satobday. Fine weather prevailed. Messrs Lynch and Green’s Verenice (6 to 1 against) won the Hopeful Stakes by a head from Miss Maltster. AThe favorite, Pospolitc, was not placed. The Sires’ Produce Stakes went to Mr R. Crawford’s Tangaroa, by Grafton—Waihine. He started at 6 to 1, and won by two lengths from the favorite, Scobie (Hant Brion —Trieste). In the Brunswick Stakes, Mr W. R. Morgan’s Red Streak (8.11) won by a length and a-balf from Kaffirpan (8.7), doing Che mile and a-quarter in 2min The chief events of the day resulted thus : ST. LEGER STAKES, of 500 sovs; second, 100 sovs; third, 50 sovs. IJm. Mr U. R. Robertson’s Poseidon, hy Positano—Jacinth, 8.10 (Clayton) 1 Mr W. Murray’s Booran, 3-10 (Burn) 2 Mr Clarke’s Benbow_ 8,10 .(Lewis) 3 Betting : 10 to 1 on Poseidon. Poseidon went to Hie front and led all the way. Benhow was second most of the time. Booran displaced him on entering ,' the straight. The favorite won by two ' 'and a-balf lengths, the same distance separating the second and third. From a good start Pompons, Step Outi, lolaire, and Tortivo were the first to show oat. Istria put on a sport, bat crossing: the tan EHis got in front, followed, by . Pompons and Istria, the next sboWidg in l a bunch being Grenadier and Dora Grey.. Istria then put on pace at the rails, and: led from Tortive, Ellis, and Step Out. Istria maintained the lead at the distance,; where Collarit came with' a good run, 1 chased hard by Ebullition and North, Head, who bad both come fast through.! the field. Other starters: Rhubarb, Proceeder,' Realm, Pins, and Antonious.
