HOPES OF A SETTLEMENT. WELLINGTON. February 15, The slaughtermen's strike continues. At a meeting last night the men decider! that as the companies had refused to increase their offer from 22s 6d to 235, they (the menl would revert to their old demand, and refuse work under 255, It now transpires that the companies were prepared to pav 23s for freezers, and a slightly lower‘rate for others, but this offer docs not appear to have reached the men until too late last night.
