BUSH FIRE IN AUCKLAND.
AUCKLAND, December 24. About two o'clock on Saturday a bush fire broke out near tho new to-wi of Raurimu. It was caused, it is believed, by the sparks from a. railway engine settling in the underscrub. Fortonately there was only n alight breezo blowing, and this in a direction opposite to the town proper, otlverwise the fire might have swept the town, everything being very dry- Fully a doien people were Tendered homeless by the fire. A number of residents pulled their camps down to save them from destruction. A large staff of rmshmen. with axes, prevented the fire from spreading to tlie thickest populated places.
