(Received December 22, at 2 p.m.) Patrick, n New York lawyer .sentenced to death in 1901 cm a charge of chloroforming Mr Rice, a millionaire client, in order to obtain his fortune, exerted every trick which the law allows in order to secure an alteration of the sentence. He has now obtained a commutation of his sentence to imprisonment for life. The various appeals cost the Stale £120,000.
