[Per United Peess Association.] GORE, December 22. A five-roomed house destroyed by tiro yesterday afternoon was occupied by W. "Gibb, a dredge hand, who saved nothing, only getting out partly clothed. The building was owned by Joseph Harrison, of Colac Bay. Insurances: £7O on the furniture and £2CO on the house, both in tho Northern Office. | CHRISTCHURCH, December 22. P. Costin, licensee of the Junction Hotel, was fined £lO and costs for supplying liquor after hours to a motor car party, of which Mr Do Montalk, killed in collision with a cart on tho Riccarton road on December 5, was a member. The license was not endorsed. The Magistrate said that if the i liquor had been given and not sold the care • would have fallen through. S. M’Kinley, for the impudent theft of a purse from tho person of a boarding-homo keeper, was sent Ito gaol for one month. Harry Kilgonr ! got, three months for associating with habitual and reputed -thieves. Ihe defence was that ho did not know the character of his associates. BLENHEIM, December 22. Tho harvest is in full swing all over the j district. There are indications that in barley there will bo a somewhat lighter yield, though there is an excellent sample - of chaffing oats. Wheat is scarce, but good.
