OTAGO ANGLERS.

The annual meeting of the Otago Anglers' Association was held in tho Masonic Hall last night. Mr A. Anderson (retiringpresident) was.in the chair. Tho President, after apologising for the absence of Mr R.. Forrest (the presidentelect), who was, be regretted", lo say, very ill, moved the adoption of the annual report (already published) and balance-sheet. ' : He congratulated, the secretary (Mr Jen- | ■kinfl) on the matther in which he had pre- ! , pared the report, and said he thought they ; would all admit that their body was a real,_ live Association, and that there was a spin* of- good -fellowship amongst mem- \ ; bers that; wiw- very hard to beat. -The : membersliip, howe%'er, was not increasing ;•■ as rapidly as they could wish. This year . there were seventy-five members on the roll, and last year the'total was seventy-two. There was no doubt,, he thought, that if. anglers took npon themselves to bring matters before their friends many would be quite willing to join, espeoially as tho subscription was only ss. The competitions, as usual, had been successful, and the thanks of the Association were due to those who had generously donated prizes. No doubt they would come forward again during the incoming season. The rest of the report dealt with the state of rivers. The Waitati was not so good as it used to be. This might be accounted . for by tihe fact, that the head waters of the stream had been tanned to supply tho City. Lako Logan had come into prominence last season by reason of tho fact that a large number of big fish had made their home there, and afforded a good deal of sport. Ho hoped this water would vield good sport this season. The Acclimatisation Society had been good enough to look after their interests by nutting weirs in the Leith, and this would be productive of good sport, esneciallv if the stream were kept clear of tho noxious matter that came down from the mills. He was glad .to see that the services rendered to the Association by Mr R. Chisholm had been referred to in the report. They all knew ■that Mr Chisholm had been elected a pattron. Finally he offered his thanks to the officers of the Association for the support thev had given him during his term of office. Ho was glad to say that Mr R. Forrest had announced his "willingness to accept the position of president of the Association.—(Applause.) Tho balance-sheet was read by the treasurer (Mr P. Aitken). It disclosed the facts that the credit balance last year was £24 9s 9d, and that that balance had risen to £27 6e at the close of the season just expired—an increase of £2 16s sd. Mr C. S. Jenkins seconded the motion to adopt the report and balance-sheet, and it was duly carried without further comment. Twelve new members were elected. Several members spoke in terms of gratitude and admiration of the secretarial excellence of Mr Jenkins, who was heartily thanked for his work. • Office-bearers for the coming year were elected as follow :—President," Mr R. Forrest: vice-presidents, Messrs D. Cooke, C.-P. M. Butterworth, S. M'Dohald. G. Crow, R. T. Wheeler, and J. A. Park; secretary, Mr A. E. Jenkins; treasurer, Mr P. Aitken; auditor, Mr H. Islip; committee. Messrs C. A. Wilson. C. S. Jenkins, H. G. Williams, B. Hatfield, C. Speight, W. Finlayson, T. Turnbull, T. R. Burt, L. De Beer, and A. Mathews. On the motion of Mr Cooke, the retiring president was heartily elected to the rank of natron. The retiring officers were genially thanked for their services, and a special motion to the same effect was tendered to Mr J. F. Peake, to whose long and honorable connection with the Association warm references were made. Then members and their friends withered themselves together in the big hall and fraternised ioviallv. Mr Robert.sliaw's orchestra and Messrs Blandford. James, Kent. Gray, Hendrv. and Falck discoursed sweet music, Mr Demnsler recited. Mr Wvinks conjured, and Mr Cooke played accompaniments.
