- COST OF GRAPES.

[Special to the Star,] CTCRISTCHTJRCH, September 26. Speaking of the cost of gra,pes in South Australia to a local newspaper reporter, Mr Scott, South Australian Commissioner to the Exhibition, stated that splendid grapes arc retailed in tho streets of Adelaide by hawkers at 61b for 3d, whilst the very best qualities are sold at Id per lb. If the restriction was removed and retailers here were satisfied with a profit of 33 per cent, after payment of freight and charges, the best grapes could be retailed in New Zealand at 3d per lb. Mr Scott adds that South Australian grapes are very much superior to many of the New Zealand hothouse grapes, being richer in aroma and more natural in flavor.
