CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.
The following to a summary of the reSrts that are to be presented to the City >tmcil to*morrow evening : The Reserves Committee report that the following applications have been granted:— To hold the combined bauds fete in the Gardens on, November 9; Caversbani Cricket Club to ptit down a light asphalt wicket on Town Belt at, Montecillo, subject to ground being left itt good order at end of season. The city engineer lias been authorised to act re the foßowing applicationsAfor cricket pitches on the Town Belt and reserves during the'ensuing season:— King street Cricket Club, on northern portion of Asylum Reserve; St. Martin's Cricket Club, on reserve opposite the Botanic Gardens; Albion Cricket Club, on Northern Recreation Reserve. The superintendent of the Botanic Gardens and rer serves has been authorised to act re the tipping of material in Southern Recreation Reserve- The charge against tie Otago Footfball Association for fencing football ground on Southern Recreation Reserve has been reduced from £l7 2 2d to £l2 15s 2d.
The Tram-way Committee report having agreed to pay the gardeners' fees (30s) when attending evening concerts in the Botanic Gardens. The following stopping-places for cars have been approved.:—At Reid road, in Careill road) South Dnnedin ; at King Edward street., Glenaven, North-east Valley. The claim by Messrs Calvert and Brugb, on behalf Of Mr J. J. Jones, for the sum of £l4 lis 4d, in connection with the contract for widening Forbutry road, ha* been declined.
The Electric Power and Lighting Committee report having advised the district railway engineer that alternating current will be available on Ist November, or direct current, if required, on Ist October, 1906, for the new Dunedin railway station. Mr Frederick Darlington's offer to refund half of the fee paid to him for inspection of machinery for the Waipori Palls hydroelectric powy works, such inspection not having been caTried out, has been accepted. The Commit/tee have resolved to adhere to their previous recommendation of the 29th August, 1906, in regard to the supply of electric power to the Milburn Limo and Cement Company, Limited. Tho Forbury Park Committee recommend that (1) the resolution of the Council of Ist August, 1906—" That the Dunedin City Coun--cil purchase Forbury Park, at a sum not exceeding fourteen thousand pounds (£14,000), after the question has been referred to and approved by a plebiscite of the ratepayers ot tho City of Dunedin ' —he and the same is hereby rescinded. (2) In view of His Worship the Mayor's minute dated 14th September. 1906, upon the proposal to purchase Forbury Park, this Council hereby abandon the said proposal, and in the present circumstances the same be not further considered.
The Finance Committee recommend thai Messrs Martin Pearce and Donald M'Kenzie be appointed valuers for Caversham and South Dimedin Wards respectively, to make valuations m those wards for the year 1906-07. Tho balance (four hundred £IOO debentures) of the Waipori Falls electro power loan. 1906, has been' sold at a premium of £1 per cent, on the first 200 debentures, and second 200 debentures at £2 per cent. The following amplications have been declined :—St. John Ambulance Association, for remission of rates; Dunedin Competitions Society, for monetary assistance. Tho local members of Parliament have been requested to oppose the proposal of the Government to reduce the amount of the annual subsidy.
