WEDNESDAY "HEP." MATCH. A match between a representative Weinesday team and a team of University players eventuated at Carisbrook yesterday, and provided a fast and interesting contest, the issue of which was in doubt, up to the call of time. 'Varsity were stronger in the forwards than their opponents, and got the ball frequently, throwing it about in their characteristic fashion. A number of scores were only prevented by the sure tackling of the opposition, among whom Robinson, Muirhead, Hanrood, and Curtis were very prominent. The Wednesday players also profited a good deal by mistakes made by 'Varsity, that beinjp their principal means of getting possessing of the ball. South Otago. These teams are spoken of as real good sides, and they are reported to have Borne capital players in their.ranks. The public can rest assured en seeing two keenly-contested games on Saturday for sixpence. The two countrv teams will be put up at the Criterion Hotel during their stay, North Otago at the Central, and South Otago at TattersalFs. On Wednesday the two winners play each ->ther and the.two losers play off, and on Saturday, September 1, a combined team will play an Otago team. HIGH SCHOOL MATCH. As the result of advice received from lbvercargill to-day, it has been decided that the Association football match between Otago and Southland High Schools shall ta played next Saturday, instead of on Saturday week, as previously arranged. Tho local boys will leave for the South tomorrow.
