FIRES OF WOOL SHIPS.

WELLINGTON, August 23. The Wool and Flax Fires' Commission sat again to-day. Mr Miles (resident partner of Murray, Roberts, and Co.) said that he had seen wool bales very hot, but never alight. He did not think that wool, at any rate greasy wool would fire. He was certain that wool would nre if brought in conjunction with temp. He had/ seen wool sent ashore at Wellington owing to its being over-heated, and thought it would be advisable to have some officer ashore who would have power to prohibit the shipment of any bale of wool which he considered ought not to bei sent aboard a ship. F. Barkas (of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile) said that wool might be damp in the centre of the bale and drv! outside without it being known.
