In the forty years between 1792 and 1832 there were, outstanding notes of the Bank of England, presumed to have been lost or destroyed, amounting to £1,350,000 odd, every shilling of whidj was dear profit to the Bank. *- The best-paid British Ambassador is Sir Francis Bertie, whose representation of Britain in France brings him £9,000 a year.
