The Government Statistician has prepared a statement showing the climated value ot the production from the various industries-, primary and secondary, in the State for 1905. ihese show a substantial increase over the preceding year, due partly to the fact that prices were nearly 4 per cent higher than last year, but the greater part :s undoubtedly due to the increased production. The returns per head of population from all in dustries attained the very high figure of £3l lis 4d, an increase of £4 6s 9d. The primary industries returned £24 8s 3d, an advance of £4 0s 7d. The value of the wool was £12.102,000, an increase of nearly £3,000,000. The actual production increased .£58,000,000. The increase in value in dairying was about 13£ per cent., though there was a slight decline in production. The value of agriculture products was £6,611,000, an increase of over 20 per cent The mining industry improved in value £500,000, and in the manufacturing industries the improvement is fairly satisfactory. The factories employed 56,117 males and 16,058 female workers. The wages paid amounted to £5,191,000, the average per hand being £1 15s le.<T» than in the previous yeaT. This is said to be accounted for Ik the introduction of labor-saving machinery, the substitution of boys for men, and the increase in the number of women employees. The total output of the factories was £30.028,000. .

The exports of minerals for the past halfyear are valued at £2,639,000, an increase of £395,000 over the corresponding period of last year. The shipments of coal for the half-year, were 488,000 tons greater than those of last year.
