HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
The monthly meeting of the .Trustees of the Dunedin Hospital was held yesterday, afternoon, when there were present Messrs Peter Miller (in the chair), S. Solomon, A. Tapper, John Mill, J. M. Brown, J. Robin, W. Wills, and Dr Riley. It was reported that in February 566 out-patients had been treated, of which 264 were old and 102 new cases. —Finance.— The Finance Committee reported that, the receipts for February were £169 4slod, of which £l4B 15s lOd was from in-patients, £ll 17s 6d from out-patients, £7 18s for gaol medicine, and the balance of 13s 6d in voluntary contributions and donations. They rojiorted the receipt of £SCO from the Hospital Board for payment of salaries and accounts for February; that £I,OOO, which had been received from the Dune-din, Savings Bank, had been paid mto the public account and application made for Government 4 per cent, debentures; that £7,000 had been placed on fixed deposit in the National Bank, half for six months and half for twelve months (subject to arrangements) ; and ibat £123 2s 6d, interest on the Campbell bequest, had been received. from the Hospital Board. They further reported that application had bear made to the Government for £69 2s lid as a subsidy on £57 12s 5d received as further subscriptions to the building fund.—The report was adopted. ' . - —House Committee.— The House Committee’s report recorded the official visit from Dr Hay, assistant inspector of hospitals; that Dr Lindo Ferguson had been granted leave of absence to attend a conference :n Christchurch (Dr Burt having undertaken Iris work in the wards); that Dr Colquhoun had also been granted leave of absence (Dr Williams to act in his absence) ; that Dr Newlands had agreed to act temporarily, as radiologist, Dr - R. Donald having resigned that position,(Dr Newlands was subsequently appointed: radiologist.) Donations of books, eta, were acknowledged from Mrs Ritchie, Mrs Mackerras, Mrs Lusk, Mrs Law, and-Mr Mac- , fie. The Committee reported that a ship-i ment of drugs and surgical requisites had.' been received and was opening up ; in good: condition.—The report, was adopted, . —Duties of Honorary' Assistant Surgeons,— Dr Fitchett, him. secretary of the bon. medical; staff, forwarded a copy of suggestions as to the duties, etc., of the assistants on the honorary staff, which had been .unanimously approved of at a joint meeting of the staff and assistants recently held;
These were;—(l) That assistants should attend to out-patients in their respective <iepartments; (2) that they should give instruction to students attending the outpatient department, and should reseiVe special cases for clinical demonstration by the senior staff when so requested; (3) that they should assist the senior staff at operations when requested, and. should take onthe whole duties of the seniors, when absent on leave.—The Trustees approved of these suggestions, with the proviso that an assistant shall not be a full member of the staff Except when acting for a senior absent through sickness or on leave; when the assistant is to accept, full responsibility.
