HARRIERS.

Y.M.C.A. Tho Dunedin Y.M.C.A Harriers Club held their fourth annual meeting in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms last evening, Mr A. J. , C. Brown (president) occupying the chair. I The report submitted by the Committee stated that there were during | the season 21 runs and two races, the same as last year, the average attendance being as compared with 14.4 in 1904, the best muster 35, against 18 last season. ■ The membership at the close of the season was 42 active and 8 honorary, an increase of 18 members. During the past year the Commit too decided to award attendance badges t> those attending all runs, and are pleased to report that the following members gained these:—Messrs Clark, Dawson, W. Heighway, Laurenson, Moreton, R. Paterson, and P- Scott. During the year two of the club members, both committeemen—Messrs J Allan and D. H ' Gilmour—left for other districts,, and the. Committee desired lo place on record their, faithful and valuable services to tho club. It was with extreme regret that they had to report the sad death of Mr W. J. Dunbar by drowning. Sir ; Dunbar was one of their earliest members. Another old member, Mr J. Turnbull, has left for the mission field. The Chairman said tills had been a most successful year, and ho thought all members of the ( dub had been' well satisfied with the work of the last Committee. He only hoped* the now Committee to be elected would be as successful as those of the past. There had been no complaints regarding the runs. In referring to the recent trip to Britain of the “All Black” team, he commented on the excellent behaviour observed by tho ; men throughout the entire tour. Objec- j tions had been made by the Golf Club about the members of the Harriers Club scatter- j ing paper over their ground, and it had: been decided to give it a wide berth in future. It behoved those who had sport at heart to study tho feelings of others. There was no occasion to rub up against otherpeople, and he hoped members, of the Harriers would always recollect this, and behave themselves as gentlemen, as they had I done in the past. The report and balance-sheet, the latter I showing a credit balance of £1 4s sd, were adopted. Clauses expressing appreciation of the work of the secretary and treasurer j were added to the report. The ©lection of office-bearers resulted as follows; President, Mr R. Chisholm; the Rev. W. Curzon-Sig- j gers, Mess re E. S. Mirams, P. Barr, and A. J. C. Brown; captain Mr T Gordon; deputy-captain, Mr M. Dawson; hon. secretory and treasurer. Mr G. Heighway; committee—Messrs W. A. Hamblett, P. Scott, T. Laurenson, G. Morton, and L. Ledge. Messrs Morton and Gordon were re-elected to the local centre of the N.Z.A.A.A Apologies for absence were received from the Rev. W. Curzon-Siggers, Messrs R. Chisholm, and G. Dawson. CmL SERVICE HARRIERS. The third annual report of the Civil Service Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club congratulates members on a very successful season. The increased attendance at the club runs and the improved form shown by members on the track, os well as the enthusiasm created in the various departments of the Civil Service, indicate the great interest takm in the sport. All club runs were veil attended, and proved to be veiy enjcyable outings, the average attendance being thirty-four. Six members receive dub, badges, not having missed a single run. The club races were well contested, large fields and close finishes being the order in each of the events. The club’s cross-countrv championship was again held at Wingatui, and proved a great success. During the year the club’s cross-country championship challenge trophy was received from London, and was greatly admired The club were well represented in the various open events of other clubs, and members have been most successful. Representativese from th club journeyed to Timaru, Oaraaru, 'and Invercargill, and competed with success. Nine relay races out of eleven (including the relay race at the Shrubb-Duffey meeting and the interclub relay race at* the N.Z. A.A.A. championship meeting) have been won by teams representing the club. In the Port Chalmers to Dunedin road race, wliich was the concluding harrier event of the year, the club were represented bv. eight runners, who were successful in gaining the five prizes awarded in the race. At the New Zealand championship meeting (March 3) the club were represented in the Otago team by G. P. Keddell, whose performances merited the greatest praise. His victories in the 120 yds hurdles and long jump, in which he established a New Zealand record (23ft materially assisted the province to win the shield. The first annual sports meeting was held at Carisbrook on Saturday, 27th Januaiy, and was a pronounced success. Despite th© very wet day, there was a large attendance, the number of ladies present being very gratifying. The sport at the meeting was excellent, and a profit of £l4 was made. The Otago Centre were to be complimented on the painstaking and fearless manner in which they had carried out their many duties. They had studied the welfare of the clubs and the sport, and were deserving .of every support from athletes as a body.’ The club’s thanks were due to the several departments of the Civil Service for trophies and medals donated during the year, medals being given by the Postal 'Department, Railway Workshops, Telegraph Department, and the ladies of the Telephone Exchange. Five good members in Messrs A. S. Taylor, E. H. Clancy, W. J. Mayer, E. J. Paton, and C. Ungall had been transferred' 1 to various parts of the colony.
