NORTHERN NIGERIA.
DEFEAT OF THE SOKOTO REBELS. DESPERATE FIGHTING AND GREAT
SLAUGHTER.

The 'Daily Mail' has received advices from Zungeru - (Northern Nigeria), dated Monday, March, 12. They aire as follow: Goodwyn, of the Royal Artijierv, attacked the Sokoto rebels to-day. The natives twice charged the British square, hut were almost annihilated.
Subsequently the advanceoV to Satiru, which was strongly held. It was bombarded and taken at the point of the bayonet amid great slaughter, the enemy fighting desperately and standing gallantly up to our men's charges. They were finally expelled and pursued by the mounteds. Three hundred of the enemy were killed, including their leader, and the entire revolt has been crushed.
'Loyal chiefs are co-operating in the pursuit of the remnant.
