ELECTION NOTES
Mr Millet, the registrar for Chalmers, inform* us that tic main roll for the Chalmers district, now in the hands of the printer, has been thoroughly purged—--2,816 names have been struck off, while 2,466 new claims and transfers have been added. Notwithstanding the number struck off, the main toll contains 5,681 names—an increase of 350 on the main roll for last election. A list of 400 names of unclaimed registered electoral notice letters may be mnui at every post olfioo hi Chalmers. Tbs-so names will be struck off by the registrar unless tho letters are ciTamed and answered. A representative and influential deputation from Port Chalmers waited on Air Evans at his residence, North-east Valley, to request him to become a candidate for the Chalmers electorate at tho coming General Unction. Mr Evans replied that he felt honored at the kindly remarks of the deputation and tho support promised. lie would let them know definitely within a week his intention in the matter. A meeting to form a committee to support Mr Barclay’s candidature for Dunedin North will be held at Woodhangh to-morrow evening.
Mr W. Gibb will address Chalmers electors at Foresters’ Hall, Port Chalmers, on Friday evening. Air William Pryor, a well-known ootra cißor of North-east Valley, in compliance with a requisition, has cousin tod to stand for the Chalmers seat.
Mr Robfc Mercer, registrar of electors for Oaversbam, has commenced his duties at his office. Blue Bell Mills, railway crossing, South Dunedin. Claims for enrolment on tbo supplementary roll will be received. Tho main roll will be printed and ready for inspection in a few days.
