It is reported that the new HuddartParkor steamer, which is now approaching completion in one of the Scotch yards, is to be named the Eiverina. She will be the biggest boat flying the HuddartParkor Proprietary’s flag, her gross regin, tor being about 4,000 tons. Her _passenger accommodation makes provision for three classes of passengers, and in her general appointments she will quite bold her own among the larger and faster steamers which are now being built by the Inter-State shipping companies to comEete in the coastal trade between Melourne and Fren ■■ title with the P. and 0. Company and other powerful rivals. Captain Thomas Free, R.N.R., marine superintendent of the Hnddart-Pari® fleet, is about to leave Melbourne for Scotland in order to bring the new steam® out to Australia. Tho Rangatira, from coastal ports, is expected hare about the 22nd inst., but it is not yet settled whether she will load tt Port Chalmers or Dunedin. She will make this port her port of final departure, tnd will leave, Homeward bound, about, tho end of the month. The Aparima is loading a Newcastle coal cargo for Singapore, and wa. leave the Now South Wales port on Wednesday next. The National Mortgage and Agency Company advise that the Maori will arrive at this port for Homeward loading about the 10th or 11th inst. She is fixed to sail finally from the Bluff about the 15th, and will go away a full ship. The New Plymouth boat, the Coriraia, is bringing about 100 tons of cargo for this port, and is expected to arrive at Dunedin about midnight. She sails for New Plymouth via intermediate ports about 2 p.m. on Monday. The Talune took in cargo and embarked passengers at tho tongue wharf to-day, and loft for Auckland via East Coast porta in the afternoon. Tba Rose Casey, which arrived about 2.30 ana. to-day, brought down 800 sacks of grain from Timaru, and filled up at the Rattray street wharf''to-day. She left for Invercargill in the afternoon. The schooner Sir Henry left the Low® Harbor this morning for Kaipara. Tho Invercargill was floated into tho » graving dock this morning for cleaning twrl painting. She will come on to Dunedin about the boginrang of the week and will load for Invercargill, sailing on Tuesday. Owing to the combined picnic of tho employees of the Union Steam Ship Company, Messrs Stevenson and Cock, and Gardner said Co., there will be no work amongst the shipping or engineering factories at Port Chalmers to-morow/ 3 The Monowai, from Sydney via Cook Strait, is expected to reach Dunedin on the early tide to-morrow. She sails from Dunedin for Melbourne about 5 p.m. on the following day. The Union Steam Ship Company have now made arrangements whereby passengers voyaging both ways will have an opportunity of seeing the wondors of Milford during the summer months. The first of the ont ward Melbourne-bound steamers to visit the Sound wfll be the Warrimoo, leaving Dunedin on the 26tn inst. The Moeraki, leaving this port on March 5, will also proceed via Milford. Of the inward Melbourne steamers, tie Moeraki, leaving Melbourne cm February 8, and the Waikare, sailing from the same pert on March 1, will indmds MiWard in their itinerary. During the voyage of the steamer Capo Breton, which arrived at Adelaide from .Now York on January 19, a fire broke out on board on December 8, when the vessel was near Cape of Good Hope. CapJ? 1Q Warden, master of the steamer, noticed smoke issuing from the forepeak, and ho at once ordered water to ho thrown on the flames, which were soon quenched. It is thought _ that the fire was dne to a quantity of jute rope becoming ignited through spontaneous combustion. The outbreak was observed in time to prevent great loss, but a number of coils of wire suffered from the effects of the salt water winch was thrown on the flames. Othervase tho damage was not great. SYDNEY, February 2, The underwriters are advised that the steamer Langton Grange has been chartered to convoy to Australia 1,700 tons of rails and 2,000 tons of agricultural machinery damaged by salt water and landed at the Cape from the Buteshire after the fire.
