An apology for absence was received from Cr BoltonThomas M'Queen a&ked permission to make a crossing in front of his premises on the Alain road.—Granted. The District Engineer of Railways, replying to a request fiom the Council for permission to put in a stone culvert with an outlet on railway gTound, wrote that the matter would be considered.—Received. The inspector of dairies forwarded a ii&t of persons licensed to sell milk in the borough, and assked that particulars of anv unauthorised sales might be forwarded to him.—Received. A circular from the Chief Health Officer gave a list of contributing local bodies to the proposed hospital for infectious diseases. —Received. The secretary of the Charitable Aid and Hospital Boards asked for information as to the annual valuation for the current year.—Received j information to be supplied. Mr C, E. George wrote estimating the cost of stopping a leakage in the roof of the Town Hall Buildings at £ll.—Cr Winton thought that as Mr George was paid for inspecting the work at the hall he should have seen that the roof did not leak. The Mayor said Mr George had explained that the defect was structural, and not connected with repairs effected in that part of the building.—Cr Winton, unsatisfied, said Mr George should, if possible, be compelled to repair the roof at his own cosU—The mat-

The Works Committee reported that the footpath at Sawyers Bay, to which they had contributed £lO, was a satisfactory piece of work They recommended that the stone crossing at Mrs Walker's be opened up, aid, if found defective, Mrs Walker bo asked to replace it, otherwise it would be necessary to put a water-table across the frontage. Repairs were recommended to the road near Pryde's, at a place where many slips had occurred; and the Council were a>ked to supply a load of screenings at Griffin's if the latter formed a path.—Report adopted. The inspector's report showed that the surfaceman had worked fifteen days in Royensbonrne Ward, eleven in Rothesay, one in St. Leonards, and three in Sawyers Bay. Thirty-six yards of metal had "been delivered and spread in Ravensbourne and Rothesay. The grade had been improved between Logan Point bridge and Palmer's quarry, Mr Palmer supplying 150 yards of metal free.—Report adopted; clerk to write thanking Mr Palmer for the metal. Notice was given that a general rate of Is in the £ would be levied for the current year; and the estimates showing the probable expenditure to be £1,225 9s 5d were approved.

The local constable was appointed ranger under the borough by-laws. The Mayor reported that the engineer of the Harbor Board estimated the cost of repair and extension of local jetties at £l4, and suggested that the boating fraternity should be consulted before anything was done in the matter.

Councillors were invited by the mayor to a public meeting in the Town Half on a d-ate to be fixed, when Mr Ell would show the advantages to be derived from the adoption of the Rating on Unimproved Value Act.

An adjourned Rpecial meeting was held at the close of ordinary business, when the district electors' list was signed, and a resolution, to operate as a special order, declaring docks noxious weeds within the borough, was passed.
