ANDERSON BAY ROUTE.—A QUESTION OF EVIDENCE.

TO TH» XDITOK.

Sir, —Ton ignore the evidence of Cr K'alker and myself and taks the assertion* of the mayor and Crs Christie and Tapper, mil straightway assume that no route was decided. And you ignore Sir Goodman's report The mayor's "statement that the Anderson Bay residents did not mention the route in their petition is no proof that the route was not decided after that If your contention be correct that no route was decided, then the Tramwaya Committee got the Council to adopt the extension without Troowing what the route was going to be— Jfc most nnbusiness-lie proceeding. Happily "for tie credit of the Council tibia did not «ccm. The records show that the Committee got Mr Goodman to report on the 16tb September, and that the route he indicated ■was the Main road, at a cost of £8,250, .and that this report, coupled with the condition that the cemetery must be handed !«fer, was adopted by the CounciJ on the ',23 rd November without any amendment ■whatever. The- proposed diversion of the route was an after-thought and Mr Goodman has never yet been asked to report upon it It is only since Monday night's discussion that the" Tramways Committee decided that the Council should vif?it the locality. The conclusion, then, is that the Council adopted a route, and that it was the Main road, the only one thought of at the time, and how any impartial person can think otherwise is what I cannofr understand.—J nm, etc, Joseph Boahhwaixe.
