MORNINGTON TELEPHONE BUREAU.

TO THB EDITOB. Sir, —I have always been under the impression that a telephone bureau was, or should be, accessible at all hours, but such is not the case in Mornington. I observe on ..•the notice board that the office is closed after 5 o'clock p.m., also upon holidays and on Sundays. New, sir, what I -want to specially bring under your notice is this: If medical assistance were urgently required through the small hours of the night, whoever it may be would be compelled to seek the kindness of. someone with a private wire (no matter how willing one may be to pay the extra fee), or probably he may have to go to Pitt street before he can get his doctor. Such things as this should not be allowed to exist, for it may be a matter of life or death. Sir, J would suggest that 'thf department try to get some private p.rson living close to the present bureau, :-. •?'! on consideration of a very small fee, or, :.r>\ taking so much from anymessage sent, tn put an extra telephone in. It only means v connecting wire from the present office, "id could only be used after the office was >.; cd. I say it would be conferring a great •mv.fiSfc upon the residents, and it would iiKm little or not expense to the department. Trusting you, sir, will give us your ?alnable assistance to obtain Hua small eoncession,—l am, eta, Resident. January 14.
