MINING NEWS.

Owing to a rise in the Nelson Creek, part of the left-hand section of the face being worked last week by the Aldinga dredge was dropped out of the cut, and for the last two days of the week the middle of the right-hand section of the cut was opened out wider. An immediate improvement in the gold won took place, and work is to be continued at this part of the face. The North Beach dredge will probably be idle for a week or more. A stoppage has been made on account of a new tumbler shaft being required, and this will have to be procured in Dunedin. In a report dated the 9th inst. the master of the Three-mile Greenstone dredge states that last week's return was spoilt through part of the west side of the paddock having been filled with silt, owing to several rises in the creek, while large boulders also prevented the dredge from bottoming. The bottom was rising, and the machine had to contend with large lumps of sandstone, which had slipped from the cliff. The dredge should be past this slip shortly, and there are no signs of another break m the 4diff for another quarter of a mile. RETURNS. Mystery Flat: 740z Ildwt, 202 hours.
