THE GOVERNOR'S DEPARTURE.
DUNEDIN TO BE REVISITED. Lord Ranfurly leaves by way of Australia, and his successor arrives in June. A member of our staff, who accompanied Lord Ranfurly in his recent tour of Southland, wired from Kaitangata this afternoon as follows:—"I have excellent authority for saying that Lord Ranfurly will leave the colony in May next, going Home via Australia, so that he may visit his Mildnrn, properties. It was His Excellency's intention to pay a farewell visit to Dunedin at the tuna of the autumn race meeting next month, but he finds that the date wifl not suit him, and he has now decided to say good-bye to the people of your City some time in April, ween it is understood that the Premier will be the Minister in atendance. I have good reason for saying that the interregnum between the departure of the present representative of the King and the arrival of his successor in the colony will be short. It may be accepted with authority that Lord Ranfurly'B successor will reach Wellington before Parliament opens at the end of June. The name of the new Governor ought therefore to be disclosed very shortly. Possibly the Colonial Office has the matter under consideration at the present time."
