THE TRAMWAYS AND THE DRAINAGE BOARD
. Immediately after the conference was over between the City Council and the iJrainjige Board yesterday the Mayor and U» rapper interviewed Mr F. R. Chapmaa about inserting the clause submitted by the Drainage Board in the Order-in-Oouhcil. Mr Chapman advised that there would be no difficulty at all about the matter, as the clause simply repeated the power which, the Drainage Board already possessed. The town clerk at once despatched a telegram to the Minister of Public Works intimating that the City Corporation were q ? t Prepared to comply with the request of the Drainage Board to have the clause inserted. The Drainage Board were also notified to the same effect. The secretary of the Drainage Board also wired as follows to the Hon. the Minister of Public Works:—"l am directed by the acting-chairman of the Drainage Board tc say that the town clerk of Bunediu has just rung up to say that they agree to being inserted in the Order-in-CoUncil the clause submitted to them by us at the conference this afternoon. That being so, on insertion of the clause in tho Order-in-Council, this Board are satisfied. Wire yon at once to avoid delay." Our parliamentary reporter wires that on making inquiries at the Public Works Office this morning Mr Millar was very much taken by surprise to learn that the Order-in-Council regarding the electric trams had not yet gone before the Crown Law Advis is, though all preliminaries were settled when Mr Park and he visited Wellington three months ago. Mr Millar is verv sore over it, and has expressed himself freely to the Hon. HalMones over the dilatorincss shown in the matter.
