ACCLIMATISATION MATTERS.
[Special to the Stab.] t WELLINGTON, July 21. Replying'to a deputation from the Acclimatisation Societies' Conference, the Colonial Secretary intimated that it was intended to change the deer season so that it would commence on December 1 and end on March 1, instead of on April, as at present It was also decided to alter the svstem of licenses for deer shooting so that a person taking out a £5 license be permitted to take four heads, and that a £lO license be good for eight. The maximum number of heads to be taken in a new district limited to two. The falling season will be changed from October 1 to April 15, instead of April 30, as at present. From information received it was shown that trout caught after April 15 are full spawn A uniform license at £1 throughout the colony had also been* suggested. He could assure the deputation that the Government were anxious to do everything in their power to preserve Sood fishing. In regard to the destruction of fish by the pollution of streams, possibly something could lie done without impairing the usefulness of the industries concerned. This and the other recommendations of the Conference would receive the earnest consideration of the Government
