SUNDAY CONCERTS.
TO THE EDITOR; Sir,—Would some of your readers kindly inform the public at what time the law was altered permitting the Municipal Council to set aside a law that forbade any company—theatrical, musical, etc.—from performing or exhibiting on the Sabbath Day and charging a price for admission?— I am, etc., Sabbatarian. May 26. [Section 363 of the Municipal Corporations Act, which is the present law, gives the local authority discretionary power to say whether Sunday concerts shall be held. The section reads as follows;—“No concert or entertainment of any kind which is open to the public, whether by the purchase of tickets or otherwise, shall be held or given on any Sunday without the written consent of the Council, and then only subject to such conditions in every respect as the Council may impose. The Council may exercise this power either generally or in any particular case or class of cases, and may delegate such power to any of their members.”—Ed. E.S.]
