CAVERSHAM, “BEWARE.”

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Although the Public Health Officer contradicts 'the report referred to by “ J.M.D.” in this evening’s issue of your paper regarding the building of a smallpox hospital on the barracks ground at Caversham, the fact remains that the barracks building has recently been used as a scarlet fever hospital, which purpose, although not so foulsome as the suggested use, was quite bad enough, considering the populous place Caversham is, and suggests the advisability of the building being done away with and the grounds being utilised for residential purposes. _ The premises, to use the mildest expression, are unsightly, and certainly no credit to the accommodation provided in the early days for immigrants to the colony.—l am, eta, Resident. May 25.
