A. Knight’s private training establishment at Racecourse Hill. While there he. saw the Auckland Cup winner St. Michael undergo the operation of firing.’ The son of St. Leger will now be given a lengthy spell. The writer states that in addition to the yearlings he mentioned in a former letter, Air Knight has three nice foals, a filly by Finland from Neroli, a colt by Stepniak from Memiphar, and a colt by the trotting stallion Blue Gown from Silver Queen, the dam of Bimetallist. Clytie is under suspicion of nnsoundness; Flame, a half-sister, by Phaethom, to Treadmill, is in' foal to the imported Government stallion Tyranny; Snzzanah, by St. George—Menuphar, to St. Daria; Menuphar, by Apremont— Watersprite, to Royal Artillery; Neroli. by Artillery—Menuphar, Argon, by Medallion —Aurey, and Busybody, by Apremont— Telltale, to Finland. Miss Button, who has achieved local fame, first as a trainer of trotting horses, and Recently as trainer of the successful hurdle racer Slow Tom, has purchased the late Mr H. Mace’s property at New Brighton, on which is situated the New Brighton Racecourse. She has sold Slow Tom to a patron of W. J. Taegart’s stable. Pallas, who has hitherto been owned conjointly by Messrs J. R. M'Kenzie and “ C. Machell,” is now the sole property cf the latter. Lady Lillian, Bombardo, Lolah, Kelbum, Narcissus, Ixia, and Kubaki are among the local horses which will take part in the Dunedin meeting. The last-named is now a stable companion to I ady Lillian, who, by the way, is particularly well. A similar remark applies to Kelburn, Bombardo, and Lolah. Clanbnrn has been sent to his' owner’s farm, where he will be treated to a rest. Cruciform made her appearance on the course a few days age. She looks well. I omitted to mention on Saturday that Lee-Enfield, the winner of the Juvenile Stakes at Ashburton, is a two-year-old gelding by Musketry from Melosina. As he was only broken in last December he must be fairly smart. 1 hear that Pilgrim’s Progress was rather light when he reached Ashburton. Catherine Gordon has joined Fred Holmes’s team. She is being schooled over hurdles. DUNEDIN HOMING CLUB. The above club flew their Ashburton race on Saturday last, a distance of 150 miles—-air-line. The day proved favorable in every respect. A strong northerly gale was blowing, enabling the birds to put up */ery fast time. The placed birds .“homed” within two minutes of each other. Subjoined are the results;—Mr J. H.
