AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

A Committee meeting of the Otago centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. was held last night. Mr W. L. Hooper (president) occupied the chair, and the following clubs were represented :—Dunedin A.A.C., Dunedin Harriers, St. Andrews Harriers, and North Otago Amateur C. and A.C. Nominations for the positions of vicepresident and delegate to the centre were received from four newly-formed clubs, and the following were declared duly elected: Port Chalmers Harriers: Mr R. Bauchop, vice-president; Mr R. T. Moore, delegate. Civil Service Harrier and Athletic Club: Mr A. Marryat, vice-president; Mr J. Faulks, delegate. Invercargill Harrier Club: Mr John Petrie, vice-president; Air W. Musker, delegate. St. Andrews Harriers: Mr H. C. South, vice-presdent. A letter was received from tSe hon. secretary of the Invercargill Harriers requesting the Otago centre to use their best endeavors to send a team of harriers to Southland on June 3 to take part in a five-mile cross-country race. As a number of harrier members have already volunteered to make the trip, the centre decided to send a team, and Messrs Hooper, Divers, and Cannon were appointed a sub-committee to m ake all the necessary arrangements. The balance-sheet in connection with the recent amateur championship meeting was submitted, and passed hy the delegates present. This showed a dfficit of £l4 odd. A gift of one guinea was received towards the championship meeting from Messrs Kirkcaldy and Macgeorge. The most important item in the evenmes business was brought forward by Mr Hooper, this being the question of establishing a New Zealand Cross-country Championship, to be held annually in the North and South Islands. After a good deal of discussion the whole matter was left in the hands of a sub-committee consisting of Messrs Hamann, Cannon, Hooper, and Divers, to report fully at the next meeting of the centre. 6
