CASUALTIES.
WELLINGTON, April 17. Joe Bonrke, well known in football and rowing circles in the colony, died last night from a throat affection.
NELSON, April 17. On Easter Monday Mrs M'Dooald, wife of tho secretary of the Acclimatisation Society, was severely scalded in the face by boiling water from an exploding billy at a . picnic. A child of Dr Hudson's was also slightly scalded, but Mrs M'Donald protected the other children of the party by covering them with her dress during the explosion
HAWERA, April 17. Two cottiers, Somers and Shearer, were crossing a ford on the Waingongoro River, between Norman by and Okaiaws, when the trap they were in over tamed, and Somers was drowned. A yonng lady saw the accident, and went for assistance, when Shearer was rescued in an exhausted condition. The ford is simple under normal conditions, but is dangerous when the rivpr is in flood, as at present.
