THE MINISTER OF LANDS TO BE OPPOSED.
;■ -•■ OAMARU, October 6. The Minister of Lands is not to have a walk-over for Oamaru. A largely-signed requisition will be presented in a day or two to Mr J. M. Brown, ex-mayor, and ifc is understood that he will contest the seat.
Mr P. J. O'Regan has decided to contest Wellington City as an Independent Liberal. The 'Herald's' Thames reporter says he lias it on very good authority that the Thames . Miners! Union are b*kely to run a candidate against the Hon. J. M'Gowan, and that Mr.W. H. Lucas, secretary of the union and a workers' representative on the Auckland Conciliation Board,, will probably be the union's choice.
Meetings of Mr R. supporters in South Ward, Bell Ward, and Leith Ward are to be held this evening. The meeting of the Bell Ward supporters will be held at No. 5 Octagon, and that of Leith Ward supporters at the Club House, Great King street. The South Ward meeting is to take place in Mr Roy's shop, Princes street south. TAPANUI, October 6. A. requisition has been presented to Mr W. Qmn,. mayor, to stand for the Glutha.
